Under the Pepper Tree

Ok, I'm not embarrassed to admit it–I will always be a child-at-heart, and I'm proud of it. This wonderful little faerie door (and it works) is a gift from Mimi Glavin, creator and owner of The Playful Garden in Napa, California. The door is situated over a hole at the base of our old pepper tree. Imagine the surprise of my grands when they visit and find this miniature world.

Joys to you,

Sharon

P.S. Mimi offers these for sale in her shop.

P.P.S. Update from the road. In the Boston area, listen to Jim Zoppo, the Garden Guy, at 8:20 a.m. EST on WTKK, 96.9 FM, and in Chicago, the Mike Nowak Show between 8:00-10:00 a.m. CST on WCPT, 820 AM live on Sunday, April 25, 2010. If you miss the shows, check their archive for a podcast.

I LOVE it Sharon! So will your grandkids!

We all need to nurture that *child within* all of us! It keeps us alive and full of wonder.

We plan to make some Faerie/Gnome homes with the children in my Earth School. I will have to show them this picture for inspiration.

wishing you harmony

I have had one of those for years with a little mailbox included! Don't you love it! I have a window as well on the side that makes it look like there is a little light on inside. It's too funny. Ahhhh...the gift of imagination ;)

I awoke this rainy (YEAH!, so peaceful) morning with these wonderful and affirming comments from other children-at-heart. Hurrah! Also, lots of personal e-mails that told me great stories about their little play areas, or the areas they are now going to create. I love this.

Onward and upward,

Sharon

Hi Sharon~~ Unfortunately I've lost most of that childlike enthusiasm. Only enough remains to remind me of how magical this setting you've created. Oh to be that child again...

I hope you'll take another photo with the Hollyhock dolls in attendance.

Oh it is adorable. They will be so surprised and I bet they love it. Just bought the whole stack of your books to read. Got A Blessing of Toads today. Started reading when I am in on my breaks from working out in the garden. I have always read your column and even saved some of them so was thrilled to know you had written some delightful books. Excited to get to know you a bit through your blog and your books!

this is exactly what gardens should be about. not neat grass and no weeds. they should be places of fun and our childish memories. they should be magic!

Dear Sharon

As I speak, I have my veranda table full of items waiting eagerly to be turned into a fairy house. My goal is to create the same fairy house in the movie "Fairytale a true story"..I am just so excited. (I entered into a swap with Missy from http://fairychildheirlooms.wordpress.com She does wonderful fairy swaps. ) I have so many gorgeous treasures from the swap to use. If I were a child (which I know I am a little too often...~) Your Pepper tree would be my favorite place....

I am happy you like our Sunflower house. The energy in our Sunny orchard is out of this World. You must have been so inspired to have written such heavenly books.

A happy day to you
Warm regards
Suzanne

Dearest Sharon, thanks for your lovely comments - am just about to e-mail you too, but wanted to say how I love this little door! We did some work in our home a few years ago & took out a lovely old half-glazed door that we didn't want to lose..so Paul had the idea of fixing it to our garden wall! It now has ivy tendrils growing over it and looks (as intended) as though it's the door to a secret garden! My niece & nephews loved it when they saw it and made up lots of stories about what could lie behind it....! Gorgeous idea to have a tiny one too! xoxo Rachel

Hey friends,

Packing for Boston, Maine, and Chicago. I'll be doing Lands' End outreach in Burlington, Massachusetts. Come visit the worms and plant some seeds with your children. Doing the same in Chicago and I'll post more information later. Just check upcoming appearances on my web-site.

I've been working like a fiend in my gardens and our house sitters and my son will care for things while we are away. Getting ready for a Country Gardens photo shoot here in May. I'll give you some sneak peaks when we finish our stone work (we're doing it and we have 3,700 pounds to lay.

My next posting will probably be from our beloved Fox Drink Ledges-our small seaside cottage in Maine.

We're looking forward to using our new stone fireplace for the first time. We'll need it too because the cottage is a summer place and it gets coooold inside off season.

More later and faretheewell my friends,

Sharon

Napa Valley would be beautiful right now. My family, on both my Mom and Dad's sides, were from Napa. I miss the summers of my childhood there on the Ranch. It makes my heart ache to think about it.
The little fairy house is so cute. Your grandchildren will love playing with the little creatures that live there.

Dear Sharon,
I have started to write this three times..and each time I had to start over. I believe I have written to you before about my love of visiting Hearts Ease in Cambria. I am certain it was you behind the counter..
Then when I came on to my blog just now I saw you had chosen to follow me and I cannot express the feelings that swept over me. It's an emotional experience for me to see you up there. It's almost more than I can express to you.

I am afraid my blog is nothing special..not in view of so many others and most especially you.
There is so much I want to ask you and to tell you..
but for now...just thank you for becoming a follower.

How sweet! My granddaughter is a bit young to enjoy that concept now, but I'm sure when she gets older she will.

I'm in the process of creating a fairy garden with repurposed items. I'll be posting about that in the future.

I would love for you to stop back by the cottage and join in my giveaway fun.

Blessings,
Liz @ the Brambleberry Cottage
