Summer Windowsills

As I walked through our little cottage this morning, I realized how the windowsills change according to season.

Garlic scapes. I love them both for cooking and for their elegant poses, like ballet dancers on stage.

From our walk with Sue and Joe on their favorite beach.

Make a wish.

Sand dollars from Sandy Cove.

Heart rocks from my walks along our shore.

Joys!

P.S.

Nothing fancy or long this time, but I did want to say hello to all of you who have written. We are in the throes of a major remodeling (do-it-yourself) project right now, and I promise to post photos and information as soon as we're finished. We are opening "COMFORT FOUND-Literary Lodging" on the top floor of our historic, three story building in the heart of downtown Damariscotta, Maine.

A view of downtown Damariscotta.

Ever yearned for a charming and homey place to stay in the middle of one of the best villages ever? We'll soon be able to offer it for weekend and weekly rentals. You'll love it. Bookcases groaning with select offerings, cloud-soft beds, cozy furniture, and a view, both front and back, of the Damariscotta River and town landing.

Our building is the one with the lights on the right.
The downstairs is occupied by Darling and DeLisle, a gallery of fine studio jewelry and accessories.

What a beautiful little village! It´s a shame it´s placed on the other side of the big ocean though. I think I would have liked to stay there a weekl or so otherwise.

I too have shells on my windowsills :-)
Have a great day now!

Your windowsill scapes remind me of ours in our little summer cottage.... We have a rotating collection of found and painted shells.. just depends on what perfectly simple treasures turn up on our walks, or what art supplies were lugged to the cottage to satisfy a sudden urge to create!

I am intrigued by your new venture...OFCOURSE it has to do with BOOKS!!! Look forward to seeing more of the project!
Happy times in your summer town!
love,
Deb~

Hello to all you visiting friends,

First, I must clarify something in response to Joyce's comment. (October Farm blog) Jeff calls this venture a "B 'n B-Bed, NO Breakfast. Uh uh. This is a two bedroom apartment on the top floor (lots of steps Paris style). It is about 1,000 square feet and furnished with a mixture of antiques and comfortable furniture. Two queen beds with great mattresses, and a full kitchen.

The apartment is in the heart of downtown and only a minute or two walk from the Library, bookstore, some fabulous coffee houses, 7 restaurants, and the Lincoln Theatre, which plays mainstream and art films and has live performances. In short, the town is just the right size and filled with wonderful people.

Joys, now it is off to clean and paint "Comfort Found."

They're lovely collections, Sharon! I've never thought to display goodies along the sills, but I may consider.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Fun windowsills...I'd never heard of garlic scapes, but they look as if one could write a secret message in cursive. All the best to you and Jeff as you prepare this delightful space and much success with it or are you using it more as a guesthouse for summer guests? Damariscotta is such a pretty little town...

Hi Vee,

Nope, this is actually a business venture, but of course our family is always welcome as pure guests. Our cottage is tiny without any comfortable space for stay overs.

I'll post photos as we get farther along. Right now things are piled high in one finished room. We're hoping that Jeff will finish the trim in the living room today and we'll be able to wade through the piles and pull things out. It will be fun. We've always wanted to do this type of project.

Love,

I love the collections on the windowsills! The sand dollars remind me of going to the beach with my grandparents, I was so excited when I found the first whole one.
Your place sounds so wonderful and what a charming town! I'd love to visit Maine one day.

Sharon, I have to smile about how similar we seem to be. Pretty shells found on strolls on the beach, interesting rocks... yep, they're all here on my windowsill too. Except the garlicscapes, I had no idea about them before but they look so artistic, that I'm intrigued.
And your literary lodging sounds heavenly! Almost makes me wish I was planning to travel in your part of the world just so I could come and stay there :)

Isn't a windowsill a wonderful thing?place? I enjoy revelling in yours, since I don't have your beautiful sills. I love those shells and of course those garlic scapes, not to mention the very arty wishing bone...who would've thought a wishing bone could look like that? My wish is(whispering...) that I might one day be able to see this corner of your beloved Maine!
